Gion by dtownley1 Gion by dtownley1
Gion, in Kyoto. Amazing place to just walk around. There are little alleys and streets everywhere, like a mini maze. This place is famous for the Maiko seen there. They are quite rare to see, and only really go from one building to another in a hurry, so for photographers, you have to be very quick and quite patient.

I did manage to get one shot of a Maiko, but the zoom lens couldn't get a really nice shot. I'll post that later if I can touch it up a little.

it's not all that clean, really. That's just a nice area of Kyoto. There are parts in the cities with are just as dirty and unclean as any other city in other countries.

Anyway, this was a really great place to visit. You could spend ages looking around all the little streets.

Really? I thought Japan was a place where littering was punishable by public lashings, or something. My friend went as part of a sister-city program (so jealous) she said it was really nice.. I wish I could've gone. Ho hum.

public lashings...? haha, I don't think so. Strangely, there are practically no bins to be found. Honestly.

In Melbourne, there are bins every 20 meters or so, but in Japan, you literally have to search for bins like a Where's Wally book. It's weird - no bins + no litter = me very confused.
